Level Up - From making art, to selling art, to selling more art

Monday, September 23, 2019 at 6:30PM – 8PM | $40

Join Amira of AMF Artist Business Management Services for an interactive presentation at the Rogue Buddha Gallery, where she will cover several topics to help you sell more art!

This event is mostly intended for artists who are looking to increase current sales, though artists at any stage will learn techniques and concepts that will help them sell their art.

Some of the topics covered will be:
1. Fluid Walls: How to curate your space/walls in a way that attracts collectors, creates hot spots, and generates more sales.
2. Curating More Than The Walls: How to design your space so it enhances, highlights, and matches you, your art, and your clientele.
3. Effective Communication: Art rarely sells itself. Learn how to effectively communicate with past, current, and future buyers and collectors - both online and in-person. This includes email, social media, in your space, etc.
4. The Art of Pricing: Learn the subtle art of properly pricing your art in a way that leads to more sales and happier collectors.
5. Professionalism: How to be taken seriously as a fine artist in a way that encourages collectors to buy your art, and keep them coming back for more.
6. Focus: Where to focus your energies to balance home life, work life, and your art.

We'll also cover other topics, as time allows, along with plenty of time for questions.

This is perfect for artists preparing for the St. Paul Art Crawl, Art Attack, the holiday season, or those looking for information to help with sales year round!

Cost is $40/artist for a 90 minute group session.

Please send a message if you'd like to prepay and reserve your spot. Payment will also be accepted at the door, as long as seats are still available.

DEATH CAFE (MONTHLY)

Sunday, September 29th, 2019, 7pm, Free and open to the public

PRESENTED BY CHRISTIN AMENT

Ever think about what happens when you die? Ever wonder about mortality? How do you want to be buried? Or remembered?

Come join us for yet another organic conversation around death, dying, life, and living. This is not a presentation, nor is this directed in any way. We will break up into small groups and dive deep into the questions and ideas that arise surrounding end of life.

7pm is a loose start time this time around as there is another event Christin is facilitating at Lakewood Cemetery that evening which ends at 6. See post about that event and make it an evening of death and ritual and community.

Note: Death and dying, like anything, do not fit into a pretty package to be dissected and understood. Nor is everyone's reaction or place along the continuum of acceptance the same. When creating a forum for discussion around this topic, it can get tricky. After hosting this event for over a year now, we have seen how some groups enjoy witty banter and humor, while others prefer quiet conversation that centers around past experiences and even grief. When walking into a Death Cafe, you do not know the intention of the person sitting next to you, and therefore, you could be in completely different head spaces. Please be aware that although this conversation is both sacred, and light, depending on where you are at with the experience, this forum is organic and attendees are encouraged to keep an open mind and heart with a willingness to go wherever the night and conversation takes us. It is our intention, as weird as it may sound, to make this event as enjoyable for everyone as possible.

Opening Reception - All Saints Day (open to the public - free) - Fri, Nov 1st
All Souls Day - Programming includes a special Death Cafe (open to the public - free) - Sat, Nov 2nd

What happens when we die? Perhaps no other question has haunted the living as much as this. While books are written, rituals concocted, stories and legends proliferate and religions and cults claiming authority on such matters dot the landscape of the living, the answer continues to allude and the mystery baffle.

Without pretending to offer answers or to convince, the artists selected to participate in Mourning Glory offer a unique visual interpretation of death and it's occulted truths. These artists are selected from around the country for their mesmerizing, thoughtful and highly crafted interpretations on the subject. Mediums include painting, graphite, pen & ink and photography.

While we may never know the truth that lurks just behind that ever so slight veil we call death, perhaps the artwork presented here will offer itself as a tool of meditation and a means to expand our awareness of what it is to be truly alive.

IN CONVERSATION WITH KAREN MARY DAVALOS

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th, 7pm

AN ARTIST TALK WITH DOUGIE PADILLA AND KAREN MARY DAVALOS

Please join us for an evening of dialogue between exhibiting artist, Dougie Padilla and Karen Mary Davalos this Thursday at 7pm.

The conversation will delve into a number of areas including the narrative of being a “self-taught” artist, Padilla’s process in art making, both internally as well as physically and the role spirituality has in Padilla’s life and in what manner that is reflected in or informs his art making.

Directing the conversation will be Karen Mary Davalos, Professor of Chicano and Latino Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Davalos has published four books on Chicana/o art, including Chicana/o Remix: Art and Errata since the Sixties (NYU Press 2017).

Her research and teaching interests in Chicana feminist scholarship, spirituality, art, exhibition practices, and oral history are reflected in her book, Yolanda M. López (the recipient of two book awards). She is the only scholar to have written two books on Chicanx museums.

She was a contributor to “L.A. Xicano”, which produced six Chicana/o art exhibitions as a part of the Getty Foundation “Pacific Standard Time” series in Los Angeles.

Since 2012, she has served on the Board of Directors of Self Help Graphics, the oldest Chicana/o - Latina/o arts organization in Southern California. In 2012 she received the President’s Award for Art and Activism from the Women’s Caucus for Art.

DYSTOPIA: Art of the Dark Future

Opening Reception: FRIDAY, July 26th, 7-11pm
Additional Hours: SATURDAY, July 27th & SUNDAY, July 28th, 3-8pm
(This is a three day exhibit)
Presented by mRakmur

“We are the dead. Our only true life is in the future.” George Orwell, 1984

I woke up to the roaring sounds of engines. It was them again. These sounds scratched us, penetrated inside, and tore us apart. We wait until the white noise starts fading away and the haggard earth is left in silent vibration. Dark clouds are gathering over the horizon. They are being pierced by beams of light and flashes, striking away upwards into infinity, to the higher levels of the city, and searching down to the dark hollow spaces, full of emptiness and solitude.

We are strangers to each other. Torn, destroyed and broken. We huddle in crumbling boxes in grim giant blocks, among other millions like us. We no longer know what will happen in the future, and we no longer remember the past.

Perhaps our future is already here.
